When you are having a bad time or you are stuck in a rut, it can be hard to find things to be grateful for.

Gratitude is the key to happiness. Studies have shown that people who regularly express gratitude are happier, healthier, more productive and more likely to be successful.

I write in a gratitude journal every day. Most days I can easily find small and big things to be grateful for. But occasionally I struggle because I have had a rough day or may be feeling down in the dumps. When this happens, I have a list of 70 everyday things to be grateful for. By reading my list, I can easily think of lots of things to be grateful for, no matter how difficult my life may seem to be.

  6. Warm spring days
  7. Tropical Summer storms
  8. A swim on a hot day
  9. Warm fire on a cold day
  10. My friends who I love being with
  11. My favourite song being played on the radio
  12. My favourite show playing on TV
  13. My favourite movie coming onto Netflix
  14. The ongoing support of my family
  15. For having a job and a regular income
  16. A chair to sit in when I need to rest my feet
  17. A comfy bed at the end of a long day
  18. Coming home to a dog that is excited to see me
  19. Knowing I always have access to three healthy meals a day
  20. My imagination coming alive when I read a book
  21. Anytime I get five minutes to myself
  22. That feeling when I put my pyjamas on after a long day
  23. The laughter of my children
  24. When the kids go to bed at night and I get a few hours of ‘me time’
  25. Everything my Mum and Dad have done for me
  26. Having two sisters who are my best friends
  27. A big family with lots of aunties, uncles and cousins
  28. A glass of cold wine while cooking a BBQ outside on a warm day
  29. That Friday feeling when I know I have the weekend ahead of me
  30. Funny jokes that make me laugh out loud
  31. Looking at the clouds in the sky as they change shape
  32. Reminiscing over old photos, journals and yearbooks
  33. Watching the sunrise over the hills or the sunset over the ocean
  34. Family traditions that I can carry on with my own children
  35. Comfort food for those special occasions
  36. Finding money hidden at the bottom of my bag
  37. The funny things my children say
  38. When I catch something thrown at me (makes me feel like a super hero!)
  39. A good cry to release emotion
  40. When I wake in the morning and realise I slept the whole night without waking up
  41. Fresh seasonal fruit in Summer
  42. The smell of a freshly mowed lawn
  43. Curling up on the sofa in my tracksuit when it is raining outside
  44. Unexpected surprises
  45. Running into a friend when at the shops
  46. Movie nights with junk food
  47. When I find something I thought I had lost
  48. When the traffic is light on my daily commute
  49. When what I need to buy at the shops turns out to be on special
  50. My taste buds that allow me to taste yummy food
  51. Seeing a pretty rainbow
  52. The beauty of the moon and stars in the night sky
  53. Access to the internet
  54. My mobile phone that keeps me in contact with family and friends
  55. The kindness of a stranger
  56. My mistakes which are really lessons in disguise
  57. The love of my husband

  61. Skype which allows me to see and talk to my family on the other side of the world
  62. Holidays with my family
  63. My mind that continues to learn and grow
  64. Everything I have achieved in my life

  68. Finding inspiration and beauty in art
  69. The flowers and plants that grow in my garden
